Tell us about your business:

I specialize in photographing people with heart and style. I’m passionate about creating imagery that moves people – through emotion, composition, light, energy and a sense of wonder. You have your own unique way of relating to the world. My job is to capture that. Every time I pick up my camera, my intention is to help you communicate your essence and message clearly and artfully. I have a gift for making the photo shoot fun and easy for even the most challenging subject. I bring the insights of more than 25 years of work as a visual communicator to each shoot. I began my career in magazine art direction, graphic design and photo editing for national consumer magazines. I focus on imaginatively photographing life as it happens: families growing, rituals like bar and bat mitzvahs and weddings, entrepreneurs starting new businesses, corporate heads-shots and special events. My service includes packages for portraits, weddings/life rituals, head-shots, corporate events and visual communication consultations. I work on location in many of the beautiful areas around Austin, at your business or home, and now offer a beautiful studio in central Austin for portrait work.

How long have you been in business?

9 years

How did you get started?

As a magazine art director, I always enjoyed the photographic aspect the most – organizing photo shoots, scouting locations, creating a message through photography and photo editing. I think I really found my passion as a photographer, though, while traveling in Nepal and India for several months in the late 90’s. I loved that the camera gave me a way to engage with world around me in a vital and life affirming way. There are people I met along the way with whom I never would have engaged if I didn’t have the camera. Some of those brief encounters are the ones that, to this day, make me feel the most alive. I’m curious about all life around me by nature-particularly understanding people’s stories-and the camera is my way of sharing those. I’m so grateful for this gift.

What excites you most about your business?

Knowing that my clients have had a great experience and feel that I captured their essence. There is nothing more important than feeling seen. As a photographer, that’s my job…to SEE my clients. And that’s what I’m great at. However, this field is not as easygoing as it sounds. One of my photographer friends had to face a legal claim against failure to provide the expected service level. Fortunately, she had professional liability insurance (E&O) to cover the allegations. Therefore, like every field, the photography business also has its highs and lows.

What’s most challenging?

Helping women claim their inner and outer beauty. My studio focus is photographing women and girls in magazine style shoots where they get to be pampered, photographed and seen for all that they are. Our culture as females is so steeped in what “perfection” looks like that we have forgotten that we deserve to exist in photographs. We need to do it for our mothers, our daughters and ourselves. What’s one thing you want people to know about you? My goal is to offer an entire experience from the first phone call to delivery that is based on listening, treating my clients with gratitude and respect and providing the most beautiful images they will ever see of themselves.
