Get To Know Personal Trainer Kara Meadows
Where were you born? Grew up? Went to school?
I was born in Elyria, Ohio (GO BUCKS!) but I grew up most of my life in Round Rock, TX. I went to Great Oaks Elementary, Cedar Valley Middle school, and McNeil High School. Then after I graduated I attended Austin Community College to get my Associates in Kinesiology degree. Later being certified as a NASM certified personal trainer & still continuing my education by looking for every opportunity to learn.
What did you want to be when you were young?
When I was young I wanted to be a dancer or veterinarian but that obviously changed!! (I still like to dance & definitely love animals though haha)
Do you have any hobbies? What do you do during your free time?
Painting, outdoor activities (lake, snowboarding, hiking, etc), weightlifting/crossfit, and traveling are some of my hobbies! I spend most of my free time investing in high school students through younglife, volunteering at a maternity ministry called Breath of Life, and spending sweet quality time with my friends, my family, or my community! I also like to go to the dog park with my pup (always a wild ride)!!
Why did you choose fitness as a career?
I have a desire to be a part of impacting peoples lives no matter what I do in life. There’s a huge opportunity at hand to do that with a fitness career. There is something incredibly unique and special in sharing your love for fitness and health with others. I get to encourage people to stay active, make healthy choices, and expand our thinking around fitness. More than that, I chose this career with the hope to impact lives as a whole far beyond the gym! Working out gives us results we can see in our consistency, but I believe in addition there is more on the table to workout than just our visible results. I am grateful to get to offer a different perspective within the fitness industry.
Advice for a new client on how to get started if they’re new to working out?
Try everything and find something you like doing! Finding something you really enjoy doing will allow you to thrive right where your at and love the workout as a whole. Take care of your body by stewarding it well and continue to move. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, to be challenged, or to try new things. Growth happens when we are willing to let other people in on where we are headed. My last piece of advice is that everyone has to start somewhere, you aren’t alone! Just go for it, your body is capable of so much!
What can members expect if they join your small group?
You can expect to have a fun, to be challenged, to grow, and most importantly to be encouraged!! My hope every class is that, you not only to get a great workout but are sent out of the gym feeling better, stronger, and more encouraged than you came in that day! I will always make an effort to be sincere and make sure you know I care about your success in each class! COME READY TO WORK!!
What is a perfect day for you?
Man, that’s hard! Honestly I could write a full page. When I think of perfect days, I just imagine a day full of things that really fill me up! I’d have to say a day free from distractions. A day where my gaze is fixed on Jesus—loving Him, worshiping Him, and giving Him the glory He deserves. A day resting in His presence. A day I get to spend time with the people I love doing something I love, like being outdoors or taking an adventure. A day of comfy clothes and edible cookie dough. A day of sleeping in. A day I can just set aside all the things I have to to and just be still. All of this in one day would fill me up!
Do you have any pets?
I DO & I LOVE THEM!! I have a cat named Genesis & a Dog named Huntlee (I take my dog everywhere I can, haha).
What are some of your favorite quintessential Austin spots?
Barton Springs, all the hiking trails available, Torchy’s Tacos, and food trucks!
Do you have any hidden talents? If so, what are they?
I can flip my eye lids, not technically a talent but I think it still counts!
