Get To Know Membership and Sales Coordinator Sage Stoakley
You may have noticed some new smiling faces behind the Front Desk lately, but the biggest smile belongs to someone who is not actually even part of the Front Desk staff! While Sage Stoakley can often be found greeting members as they come in the club, her true focus is welcoming new members into the BodyBusiness community. As Membership & Sales Coordinator, Sage is the primary contact for individuals exploring a gym membership with BodyBusiness — answering questions, conducting tours of the the club, and scheduling fitness assessments for new members and more!
If you have friends, family or co-workers looking to join the best gym in Austin, send them to Sage for a free 7-day trial membership.
You’ve been at BodyBusiness since mid-January, but this isn’t the first time you’ve worked here, is it?
No it isn’t! I actually worked at BodyBusiness in high school! I was a front desk associate and absolutely loved it. When I went to university I had to leave but every time I was home on a break or holiday I would pick up some shifts and help out if there were shifts that needed covering!
What made you decide to come back?
This place is where I started my health and fitness journey. I love the people, the staff, and the facility. It is such a positive work environment and I am able to stay on track with my exercise and be around people who also care about health and fitness.
What is the most challenging part of your job? And what part do you love the most?
The most challenging part of my job is probably learning and adjusting to our software system that we use. It has a lot of strange details and quirks that I had to explore and learn about when I started. I was not expecting to have to call their help line so many times, haha!
But I have to say the part I love the most is starting new members on a fitness journey. Seeing someone come in who is looking for a positive community and place where they can exercise and gain strength is really exciting for me. I have been where that person is and am on my own fitness journey that ebbs and flows, but this community is so positive and supportive. When a new member comes and says to me “That class was amazing!” or “I added weight in Group Power today!” that shows me that they are progressing and becoming healthier people.
You have such a positive energy and you’re always smiling! How do you keep that energy up?
Haha! Um, it’s not always easy! I have always been a really positive and energetic person! I think it’s just how I am programmed. But, I would say I get a lot of my positive energy from nature and spending time outdoors. That really brings me a lot of joy. I also am an educator which really brings a lot of positivity to my life as well. I am fueled by my students success and that gets me pumped up!
I also believe that there is a strong correlation between music/art and joy. I am a musician and have been my whole life. I try to either teach, perform, or practice music ever day of my life. It makes me feel connected to myself and society as well as boosting my mood. It also helps me emote and express things I am feeling or going through! Also, coffee!
Where were you born? Grew up? Went to school?
I was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada! Both of my parents are Canadians and when I was 4 years old, my dad got a new job in Austin, TX. I think my parents just thought it was a great opportunity and if there is any age to move your kid across the country, it is when they are 4!
So I was lucky enough to grow up in Austin! I went to Hill Elementary, Murchison Middle School, and then applied and went to McCallum Fine Arts Academy for Voice/Orchestra/Theatre!
What did you want to be when you were young?
Oh I wanted to be the biggest Broadway star ever. Sing in shows all year every year. I still love performing, but I don’t want to do it full time!
Do you have any hobbies? What do you do during your free time?
Mostly music! I sing in several different groups around Austin and I am learning the guitar right now. I also love to bake/cook. I have been thinking about starting a cooking/baking blog for a long time however I just don’t know if I have the time! Ugh
Do you have any pets?
No, but I hope to have a dog soon!
What are some of your favorite quintessential Austin spots?
Oh gosh! My favorites are The Elephant Room and Mt. Bonnell Overlook. However I do also really enjoy the dance bar Donn’s Depot as well as the Driskill Hotel Bar.
Do you have any hidden talents? If so, what are they?
I don’t know if I have any hidden talents! I tend to be a pretty open person.
What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?
I could not live without bread. It’s just too good. I have tried to not eat it and I simply cannot. It is a joy and love for me. So I just choose to eat it sparingly. But I cannot live without it, haha
What’s on your bucket list?
I have a lot of things on my bucket list. I would say I really want to travel to Brazil, Japan, Thailand, and pretty much all of Europe. I also want to go on a long sailing trip. I love to sail and would love to do like a 3-week trip. I also want to hike the Grand Canyon at some point!
