Improving Your Push-Ups
People often come to me frustrated that they don’t feel like they ever improve on push-ups. They tell me they keep getting stronger on the chest press machine or with a db bench press, but they don’t see any improvement with respect to the push-up itself. It comes as a surprise to many that push-ups aren’t all chest and arm muscles. Your ability to do a push-up (or lack there of) is highly dependent upon your core strength. If you cannot hold a strong, steady plank position while lowering into or pushing up from the ground, you won’t see push-up improvement no matter how strong your arms become. Increase your time spent on core strength and stability and the push-ups should get stronger.
